Gathering
Welcome – words from Rev Paul Henderson; Theme: Content in Christ

Greeting

The light and peace of Jesus Christ be with you
And also with you.

The glory of the Lord has risen upon us.
Let us rejoice and sing God’s praise forever.

Hymn: Praise, O praise our God and King

Praise, O praise our God and King;
hymns of adoration sing:

Refrain:
For his mercies still endure
ever faithful, ever sure.

Praise him that he made the sun
day by day his course to run: [Refrain]

And the silver moon by night,
shining with her gentle light: [Refrain]

Praise him that he gave the rain
to mature the swelling grain: [Refrain]

And hath bid the fruitful field
crops of precious increase yield: [Refrain]

Praise him for our harvest-store;
he hath filled the garner-floor: [Refrain]

And for richer food than this,
pledge of everlasting bliss: [Refrain]

Glory to our bounteous King;
glory let creation sing:
Glory to the Father, Son,
and blest Spirit, Three in One.

Ancient and Modern 286, Tune: Monkland (Chris Weaver)

Collect

Lord God,
your Son left the riches of heaven
and became poor for our sake:
when we prosper save us from pride,
when we are needy save us from despair,
that we may trust in you alone;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
All: Amen

Prayers of penitence

Invitation to Confession
In baptism we died with Christ, so that as Christ was raised from the dead,
We also might walk in newness of life.
Let us receive new life in him as we confess our sins in penitence and faith.

Confession

Jesus Christ, risen Master and triumphant Lord,
we come to you in sorrow for our sins,
and confess to you our weakness and unbelief.

Silence

We have lived by our own strength,
and not by the power of your resurrection.
in your mercy forgive us.
All: Lord, hear us and help us.

We have lived by the light of our own eyes,
as faithless and not believing
In your mercy forgive us.
All: Lord, hear us and help us.

We have lived for this world alone,
and doubted our home in heaven.
in your mercy forgive us.
All: Lord, hear us and help us.

May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins,
heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn: King of Kings

Led by Chris and Jill Weaver

King of kings, majesty,
God of Heaven living in me,
gentle Saviour, closest friend,
strong deliverer, beginning and end,
all within me falls at your throne.

Refrain

Your majesty, I can but bow.
I lay my all before you now.
In royal robes I don’t deserve
I live to serve your majesty.

Earth and Heaven worship you,
love eternal, faithful and true,
who bought the nations, ransomed souls,
brought this sinner near to your throne;
all within me cries out in praise.
Refrain

Creed

Let us affirm our faith in God
All: We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us with power from on high.
We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.

The Peace

God is love
and those who live in love live in God
and God lives in them.
The peace of the Lord be always with you
And also, with you.

Spiritual communion (with short explanation)

We are invited to make a spiritual communion with God who comes to meet us wherever
we are. There are no special words or prayers for this. All the Church has ever thought
necessary is a true desire to receive Christ, a lively faith in Christ, and a genuine love for
Christ and his people.
Some verses which form our creed today, taken from St Paul’s letter to the Philippian
church focused on our Lord Jesus Christ.

Who, being very nature God,
Did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, He made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled himself
By becoming obedient to death –
Even death on a cross!
Therefore, God exalted him to the highest place
And gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow
in heaven and on earth and under the earth
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father.

Music: Father, we adore you

Chris and Jill Weaver, Daisy and William Rutter

All: Lord Jesus Christ, bread of life, we have come together in your name to feast in your
presence and be strengthened in your service as the body of Christ here on earth. We look
forward to the day when we will share together in broken bread and wine outpoured
again and to that greater day when we will drink of the fruit of the vine in the kingdom of
God.

HYMN Lord of all power, I give you my will

Lord of all power, I give you my will,
in joyful obedience your tasks to fulfil.
Your bondage is freedom, your service is song,
and, held in your keeping, my weakness is strong.

Lord of all wisdom, I give you my mind,
rich truth that surpasses our knowledge to find.
What eye has not seen and what ear has not heard
is taught by your Spirit and shines from your word.

Lord of all bounty, I give you my heart;
I praise and adore you for all you impart:
your love to inspire me, your counsel to guide,
your presence to cheer me, whatever betide.

Lord of all being, I give you my all.
If e'er I disown you, I stumble and fall,
but, sworn in glad service your word to obey,
I walk in your freedom to the end of the way.

Ancient and Modern 714 (Chris and Jill Weaver)

Thank you for joining us for today’s service. Let me now pray God’s blessing over all of us.

Blessing

Eternal God
Our beginning and our end
Accompany us on today’s journey
Dawn on our darkness
Open our eyes to praise you for your creation
And to see the work you set before us today
Take us and use us
To bring others to new life you gave in Jesus Christ our Lord.
and the blessing of God almighty
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
Be with you now and always.
All: Amen
